Skipper selection tips.
As a crew member how do you make the best use of crew4u2sail.com
to select the right yacht owner or yacht skipper for you?
Things to look for:-
The skipper
- Make arrangements to 'meet and see' before you commit.
- The person's appearance.
- Their experience and references.
- The condition of the yacht - is it well cared for and
orderly or disorganised.
- The safety equipment available.
- Who else will be going?
- Be sure to understand the financial arrangements.
- Is the skipper a racing type or has a more relaxed
approach?
- Do you have anything else in common apart from
sailing?
- Tour the yacht - assess amenities/your space.
- Establish what is expected of you.
- Is it in line with your important criteria i.e. no smoking,
days off etc.
The yacht
- What is the significance of yacht name?
- What is the yacht insurance cover?
- What navigation equipment is available?
- Watch arrangements?
- Cooking arrangements?
- What will be the domestic duties?
- What will be the yacht maintenance duties?
Other considerations
- Food/drink/alcohol/smoking.
- Time schedule - how long will you be needed?
- Compatibility - can you work together and get on?
